Uchu Sentai Kyuranger – Episode 22 Review

Last episode was the debut of HououSoldier in battle but this episode was the real debut of the man inside the suit. We finally got to learn more about the character himself and, like most members of the Kyuranger cast, I could see him becoming a favourite of mine. His backstory about being the first person to travel beyond the moon 300 years ago not only gives us a rough idea of where abouts in history Kyuranger is supposed to take place but it gives him something unique to makeRead More

Uchu Sentai Kyuranger – Episode 21 Review

I love that this episode started with resolution rather than a pre-titles cliffhanger like normal. Starting with a problem to be solved works well to get the audience hooked but it’s nice to mix up the formula every now and then, and opening with the return of a character who apparently died is just as much of a hook. Because of the way Episode 21 starts, you could almost edit this together with 20 to create one seamless 45 minute story, and I can’t decide if that’s a good orRead More

Uchu Sentai Kyuranger – Episode 19 Review

This episode got off to a strong start by getting us immediately back on the search for the Argo. As much as I love that the Kyurangers don’t waste any time in getting stuff done, up to this point they’ve still been working to their own schedule. The universe has already been taken over and districts get liberated when they get around to liberating them. In Episode 19 this changes, as the pre-title establishes that the time limit to find the Argo is now being set by Jark Matter, notRead More

Uchu Sentai Kyuranger – Episode 16 Review

Kyuranger is a properly good Sentai series. I mean, I know I’ve been giving it largely positive reviews already on an episode-by-episode basis but I just have to say, overall, this is a good Super Sentai show. And it’s good not just because it does the typical Super Sentai stuff well, but because it subverts expectations and actively tries to find new twists on things. Never was that more apparent than at the start of this episode, when Scorpio ends his fight with Stinger by defeating Madako and telling StingerRead More

Uchu Sentai Kyuranger – Episode 11 Review

Just because this show has given us 11 rangers in 10 episodes, that doesn’t mean it has any plans of slowing down apparently. At the start of this episode we’re immediately introduced to the team’s new objective: finding the Argo, a legendary ship that takes three Kyutama to summon. I’ve come to really love the bits at the start of every episode where the team is on the ship figuring out what their next mission is going to be. It adds to the notion that the Kyurangers are an organisationRead More

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger – Episode 40 Review

I have two things to say about that pre-title sequence. Firstly, it’s so cool to see a Super Sentai team running to the aid of a non-monster related threat. Saving that kid from the bullies is just a really nice heroic thing that doesn’t factor into any of the bigger picture stuff. Secondly, dear lord are we really going with this as a villain theme? What even was this episode? And how long is it until the next exciting plot thing happens? This was a Leo focus episode in theRead More

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger – Episode 38 Review

Well it only took 38 episodes but we’re finally getting into the history of Zyuland’s connection with Earth and what Bard’s motivations are. This show really should have had a much deeper storyline, particularly one that actually gave the main villains something to do, so the whole thing didn’t feel so thinly spread. We’ve had so many pointless gimmick episodes with no plot progression and then all the plot progression happens at once. Still, what we finally got was wonderful. Humans finding their way into Zyuland and then being killedRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 30: Story of How I Got Into Godzilla and Godzilla (2014) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 30: Tell Us Your Story of What Got You Into Big-G: Where do we begin on that? Like I don’t even know what to bring up and what not, because it’s really a long story of why I love Godzilla, the movies and everything about the franchise and still do to this day. I guess to put it simply, Godzilla came into my life when I needed it. When I saw Godzilla, King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Megalon there was something about GodzillaRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 29: Do You Prefer Godzilla as a Hero or a Villain and Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 29: Do You Prefer Godzilla as a Hero or a Villain?: He’s whatever he wants to be. I find it kind of weird though since to me Godzilla isn’t really a “hero” or “villain” he’s more neutral than anything, chaotic neutral for the most part. Sometimes humanity benefits from Godzilla other times they are hurt by him but what he does for humanity isn’t of “heroic” or “villainous” intent, he just kind of does because of the consequence of what he is, a monster. HeRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 28: Which Movie Would You Remake and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S (2003) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 28: If You Could Remake One Movie Which One Would It Be? Shin Godzilla obviously. But in all seriousness if I could remake a Godzilla film there are a couple; Godzilla Raids Again, Ebirah, Horror of the Deep, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, All Monsters Attack, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla 2000 and the Kiryu saga. They are films I love and like, but maybe changing a few things here and there and fixing some other things toRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 27: Your Collection and Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 27: Your Collection: My collection? Jeez…I don’t feel like taking pictures of everything. So I’ll just say I have a lot of figures, a lot of VHS, a lot of DVDs and Blu-ray (I have all the Godzilla movies), I have a couple of the video games, and I have the autographs of Haruo Nakajima and Akira Takarada. I probably have other things I can’t think of right now, like a lunchbox and blanket, stuff like that. 30 Days of Godzilla- Review: Gojira tai MekagojiraRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 26: Favorite Standalone Kaiju Movie and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 26: Favorite Standalone Kaiju Movie?: Besides the original Godzilla (what a shock) there’s The Return of Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and if they count, the Daimajin trilogy. All are just very well made films that are worth watching. 30 Days of Godzilla- Review: Gojira, Mosura, Kingu Gidora: Daikaijū Sōkōgeki aka Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack aka Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack featuring Baragon who we couldn’t possibly put in the main title for some reason aka GMK 2001:Read More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 25: What Movie is the Most Overrated and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 25: What Movie is the Most Overrated: Overrated seems like a negative term, I prefer to call it over-appreciated because I think this film get a little more love than it deserves. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Though I can see why it may appeal to those who like it, I can’t help but watch the film and just feel mixed about the experience. 30 Days of Godzilla- Review: Gojira tai Megagirasu: Jī Shōmetsu Sakusen aka Godzilla x Megaguirus: G Annihilation StrategyRead More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 24: Worst Dub and Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 24: Worst Dub: Tie between Godzilla Raids Again or as the dub calls it, Gigantis, the Fire Monster and All Monsters Attack aka Godzilla’s revenge. Gigantis, messes up a lot of what Godzilla Raids Again is and it feels like a dumb down of what the movie actually is. Same with Godzilla’s Revenge, that dub I think ruined any sort of chance of trying to find any good in the movie. Both ruin any sort of enjoyment you could of had with either film. 30Read More

30 Days of Godzilla – Day 23: Most Underrated Movie and TriStar’s Godzilla (1998) Review

30 Days of Godzilla: Day 23: Most Underrated Movie: Underrated? I prefer the term under appreciated just cause I think that better describes my mindset for this one. I guess maybe a tie between The Return of Godzilla, because whole people like it for what it is, I don’t think it gets enough credit for it’s craft and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla from 1993. I see it get rarely talked about despite all the cool things it does. Yes MechaGodzilla is a human weapon, but that’s kind of the point isn’tRead More
