Netflix has updated their official Youtube channel with a new trailer for Marvel’s Punisher. The latest trailer features a deeper look at the story of the series. Marvel’s Punisher will be released exclusively on Netflix on November 17.
Last week we skipped over the narrated intro and had a weirdly epic build-up to the opening title sequence. This week, we’re straight into the title sequence with no intro at all. Strange that they’re mixing it up but I supposed it’s to create something like a new start mid-series. The Naga is evil/going back in time arc spanned a lot of weeks so now that we’re back to something resembling status quo it seems the show is trying to give itself a push for the second half. Either thatRead More
We skip over the usual opening narration this week to go straight to Don Armage addressing his minions. It’s a strong opening that shows for the first time since the Kyurangers returned to the present that he really is still around and nothing has changed at all. The church setting is a striking choice for a such a short scene but it works really well and it makes me miss the more visually-interesting villain lairs in series like ToQger. The main purpose of this opening to get us onto theRead More
After going back to the past to change history, the Kyurangers returned to discover the world in a slightly more dystopian place than they left it, now that Garu and Kotaro have been captured, the Orion is badly damaged, and everything they just did seemed like it was for nothing. The start of this episode felt hopeless in a way that only this particular Sentai show can do. Part of Kyuranger‘s appeal to me is that it’s the story of the universe being freed from evil rather than a universeRead More

It’s strange to have something that feels like a final battle against the main villain in Episode 30 of a Sentai series, but here we are. We had an epic fight in a desert with cool drone shots and slo-mo, the main villain tried to attack the rangers’ base, and at least three characters were on the brink of death (and one actually died). It certainly felt endgame-y, and for me it’s exactly the sort of thing the mid-series of a Sentai show needs to keep the momentum going. IRead More
This episode got off to a strong start with the team in the present exploring the 300-year-old wreckage of the Orion. The destroyed control room was a simple but effective image that made for a memorable pre-title sequence with a genuine cliffhanger rather than just the promise of a fight. It’s nice to see Sentai attempting a more complicated storyline, and for the most part it works. As far as villain introductions go, it doesn’t get much better than Don Armage’s entrance at the end of this episode. There areRead More

Wow, they really want to make sure we understand the whole ‘two teams: one in the past, one in the present’ thing, huh? They’re even doing on-screen diagrams now. Something else I want to mention about the opening is that Lucky introduced the whole group as the Kyurangers rather than just saying his own name. Since the start of the series Lucky has steadily grown more and more competent as a leader and I can’t tell if it’s an intentional character arc or a side-effect of the show having gainedRead More
