DC and Warner Bros. to Produce Live-Action Blue Beetle Film
According to The Wrap it has been revealed that DC and Warner Bros. are producing a film based on Jaime Reyes, aka the Blue Beetle. For those who are not aware there were various rumors that Blue Beetle was going to receive a live-action film with Booster Gold. Greg Berlanti was originally going to produce it but the film never went anywhere outside of the rumor mill.
Gareth Dunnet-Alconer is said to write the screenplay for the film while Zev Foreman is set to be the executive producer on the project.
Jaime Reyes is an Mexican-American teenager who is also the third character to take the mantle of the Blue Beetle. Dan Garret was the first Blue Beetle who was introduced in Fox Feature Syndicate’s Mystery Men Comics #1. After DC Comics bought the rights to the Blue Beetle character they would later introduce the second Blue Beetle named Ted Kord in Infinite Crisis issue #5, which was released in 2006. Jaime would later be featured in his own standalone comic series inadvertently titled, “Blue Beetle,” which was released in May 2006.
The Wrap provided a short description of the character.
Jaime Reyes discovered the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school with two of his best friends Paco and Brenda, half-buried in a disused lot. Reyes took the scarab home, curious as to what it might be. That night, the scarab came alive, and grafted itself to the base of Jaime’s spine, and provided him with a suit of extraterrestrial armor which can be modified to enhance his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields.
No the details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.
