Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger – Episode 14 Review

This episode started off with a surprising callback to the very first episode and the Sauron-looking monster that the Zyuohgers destroyed. I knew that design looked way too cool to be wasted on a normal monster of the week, and it turns out he was actually one of the villain leaders prior to the show starting. The main premise of this episode, a contest between two monsters to see who should replace him, is pretty original (and the rock-paper-scissors joke was a surprisingly meta comment on how Sentai monster costumes areRead More

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger – Episode 13 Review

Finally, after 13 episodes, the constant handing out of leaflets paid off and the team actually got a lead. This is one of the things I love about this series over others: the characters here are way more proactive in achieving their goals. Without a mentor or really any other regulars to help them besides the comic relief uncle, the group have to make all the decisions themselves and it makes them seem smarter. With Ninninger, the student-teacher dynamic was phenomenally well done but it unfortunately raised some questions likeRead More

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger – Episode 12 Review

So the team are still on the streets handing out fliers but now the fliers have a different picture on them. Clearly the previous two-parter had a huge impact on the show. That being said, this was actually an alright episode. It was nice to see a bit more of Tusk’s backstory and we’re really made to feel like he is an outsider wanting to learn more about human life. This is the sort of episode I love to see Zyuohger doing because having a team largely comprised of charactersRead More
